The Wren: Part 2

Happy Spring Everyone!

I'm still diligently tapping away at my craft room cleaning, and today is so sunny and lovely that I have all of my blinds open letting the sun shine in as I work!  It's wonderful!

Since it is the first day of spring, I thought I'd share a few pictures from my little adventure that happened this time last year...

The wren that laid eggs in my wreath!

This was one of the most awesome things that I've gotten to experience.  The little birds were in my wreath for 14 days before I watched them all fly away!

These are them on day 5.  They're starting to get furry and you can really see their little beaks!

This is two days later.  They're up and chirping lots and lots now, waiting for mom and dad to come feed them!

And this is day 9.  Eyes are finally open!  They can actually see me taking pictures of them now, but they didn't seem to care too much.  If they were chirping, though, they would get a bit quiet when I peeked in.

And this is day 14, the last day in the nest!  They actually have feathers and are walking around (and sitting on each other's heads)!

The next day when I came home from work they were fluttering around and one flew out in my face!  I got to watch the second one hopping around and took a short video I posted over on my Facebook page!  It was so awesome.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful start to their spring!  Maybe you'll have some little birds living on your front door this year too!

Craft Month: Ikea Lamp Redo

Happy March Everyone!

If you didn't know already, March is a pretty awesome month.  Why?

It's NATIONAL CRAFT MONTH!  Yay!!

In celebration of the month of crafts, all of my upcoming posts will consist of crafty organizing projects for the Craft Room.  I'll show how I keep my disaster area of a studio space organized and super bright and colorful!

At the end of the month, I'll post the dramatic reveil of my space and give a tour.  Should be fun!  And hopefully encourages me to keep it clean for longer than a few days...

To start the month off, here's a simple lighting project I whipped up with one of my Ikea finds.

This is the Kvart wall lamp from Ikea which can be purchased for around $10.  It used to come in other colors, but these days it's just plain old black and silver.  That's all good and dandy, but I like color.  So after a quick trip to Lowes, I busted out the Painter's tape and a plastic bag and headed outside.

I snagged a white version of the lamp when it was still available, but the silver color would still be easy to do as well, it just might take and extra coat or two of paint.  I was really careful with my taping job so that I wouldn't end up with paint everywhere, but other than that this was a super fast little project.  A few coats of some satin finish green spray paint and I had this:

The perfect, brightly colored task lighting.  The satin finish ended up being extremely important with this lamp, because it doesn't even look like it's been painted.  Just be careful with the spray and it'll turn out great!
